Shelby and Athan first crossed paths in September 2021, meeting through a college biology study group that quickly sparked a sweet friendship. About a year later, fate (and organic chemistry) brought them back together. After class, Shelby would cozy up in the Coulter Hall lobby for her online physics lecture, while Athan, fresh out of orgo, would find every excuse to linger and chat. With a mischievous grin and perfect timing, he made a habit of “bothering” her—especially since, with a broken leg, she couldn’t exactly run away. Little did they know, those stolen moments would be the start of something special.

By the spring of 2023, things were starting to bloom. Athan had been invited to a date party by a friend in Shelby’s sorority, but just after he said yes, Shelby asked him to go with her instead. Caught in a bit of a dilemma, he went with the friend, only to find himself counting down the minutes. Bored and restless, he texted Shelby nonstop, begging her to get there faster. And when she finally walked in, everything changed—she lit up the room and turned the night around. Just three weeks later, on March 25th, they made it official, and continued to fall more in love every day.

Two years later, the couple celebrated their two-year anniversary with a fancy dinner and a walk through Lamar Park. Athan, usually reluctant for walks, was eager for this one. He brought Shelby to a dock, overseeing the quiet pond, and asked someone (a planned photographer) to take their picture. As soon as they posed for a picture, Athan dropped on one knee and asked Shelby to spend forever with each other. Shelby and Athan are incredibly grateful for all of their family and friends who have been part of their adventure together. They can't wait to celebrate their love with all of their people soon!
